Overview

Gena McLaughlin is an LPCC who takes a relational-cultural approach to counseling. Gena takes an integrative, intersectional approach to therapy that looks at societal structures and the social unit in one's life that may come in the way of an individual finding their unique happiness, voice, and fulfillment. Offering a work history as an advocate for survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, Gena is passionate about working with those who have experienced trauma.
My framework is relational-cultural therapy (RCT), a modality and a perspective. It takes a holistic approach to treatment by changing both the client's outside world and internal world by utilizing empowerment and acknowledging negative thought patterns. In accordance with the needs of the client, I use tools from DBT, Narrative therapy, and ACT commonly.
I'm inspired to work by the perseverance and strength of anyone who has overcome obstacles that threaten to keep them from discovering their authentic selves.
