Group Therapy

Group therapy is an effective form of therapy in which a small number of people meet with the support of a therapist to address a specific topic or area of concern. While each group differs in approach and goals, all groups aim to create a safe, supportive, and cohesive space.

Clients can engage in group therapy along with individual therapy as groups can provide benefits that individual therapy may not. Groups can act as a support network that allows participant gain insight from fellow group members and feel less alone in their struggles.

The Grief Recovery Method Support Group

Grief is the normal and natural emotional response to loss, but most of the information we’ve learned about dealing with loss is intellectual. Although our Grief Support Groups involve some educational elements, effective Grief Recovery must deal with your broken heart, which requires emotional support instead of intellectual explanations. Our Grief Recovery Method Support Groups offer a safe, evidence-based environment for grievers to take effective and lasting action, no matter the type of loss experienced.

Our Grief Support Groups provide a safe environment for you to look at your old beliefs about dealing with loss, which losses have affected your life, and take actions that will lead you to complete unresolved emotions that may still be causing you pain. It’s an action-based group that involves reading and writing assignments outlined in The Grief Recovery Handbook – 20th Anniversary Expanded Edition. This is not a drop in group. You must commit to doing the 8-week program in order to have a lasting impact.

Emotionally Empowered

This group will teach practical emotional regulation tools to enable group members to choose what to think and feel, no matter what is going on. When the emotional brain is in charge, it makes it difficult to manage many things in life. Challenges in life as well as many internal challenges such as health difficulties or mental health diagnoses make choosing how to think and feel very difficult and often leads to challenges in that person’s life. The power to choose is within us, and with practicing specific tools, this power can be found by anyone. This group will use a combination of cognitive behavioral concepts, somatic practices and polyvagal theory concepts so that members are able to learn and practice skills related to improving outcomes in many contexts. Individuals over the age of 18 with a variety of challenges could benefit from these skills that would enable them to lower their stress levels, improve their ability to feel positive emotions and decrease any challenges related to challenging emotions.
